12 Tips For Newbies To Online And Affiliate Marketing – Part 2 of 3
For the beginner, online marketing can be confusing, frustrating, and expensive. Make sure to read the first part of this article if you have not already done so. The newbie interested in online marketing needs to make a choice between marketing his or her own product or someone else's product. If you already have a product to market then skip to Step 3. The other choice for online marketing is to become an affiliate.
What is affiliate marketing?
An affiliate is someone who sells another product and earns commission if that product sells. You should not need to pay a membership fee to become an affiliate. Many "type-at-home" programs are actually affiliate marketing. Start with Step 1 if this describes your interest. There are plenty of articles, blogs, and forums to help the beginner also and I encourage you to reference this material.
The following are tips 6-9.
Step 6. Create an email address specifically for your blog or website. Many sites offer free accounts. Make sure the email matches or is very close to the address of the blog or website. Once you start to market your site, you will receive a lot of mail from spammers, etc. Creating a separate email address for your business will keep your personal email private and spam free.
Step 7. Add content to your website or blog such as articles or information about your area of interest and product. Sites that have fresh content are more likely to be ranked higher in search engine listings. Content needs to contain as many keywords as possible. For example, if you set up a blog, your first post needs to contain a few sentences about what the blog is about. These sentences should contain many keywords. Your next post would be an article about your interest.
The third post can be an advertisement for a product. Continue to add articles (your own or others) to the site on a regular basis to keep it fresh. By adding content on a regular basis, visitors will come back often to see what is new.
Step 8. Offer to email those who want to know when new content is added. Following up with your visitors greatly increases your chance of a sale. One way to obtain visitors email is to offer a free product that can only be obtained by submitting his or her name and email. When responding to visitors you can email each personally or use and auto responder. You should include the visitors name in your emails as it increases the chance of them reading it. Make sure to include a link back to your site in the signature of every email.
Step 9. Submit your URL or web address to search engines. Manually submit to the top ten, then use auto submittals to reach smaller search engines. The top ten search engines are: Yahoo, MSN, Google, Open Directory, Exact Seek, Scrub the Web, Search Sight, Buzzle, Entire Web, and Accoona. Submitting your site several times will not improve your search engine ranking and may actually cause your site to be excluded.
